Road to Recovery

My mum had a bad fall on 5 August in her workplace. She was admitted into SGH and I was glad that Fourth Auntie was there to assist and accompany her. They arrived in SGH A&E at about 2 plus in the afternoon, waited ages for X-ray and hours for doctor's consultation. It was only at about 12am next morning before she was finally given a ward ! It had been a long day, expectant of a public hospital !

The X-ray has revealed that my mum has a fractured her patella(kneecap). She would need time to be fully recovered.

We would like to thank you all friends, colleagues and relatives who took time to visit my mum.

My mum needed time to heal and she needed assistance throughout this tough time. I didn't actually get a chance to go back office because she was discharged after National Day. My mum would need to go polyclinic for dressing of the wound and SGH for physio therapy.


Mum's second sister and cousin came to visit my mum at SGH. This photo was taken before operation, she still looked cheerful. However, after the operation, she was in pain. We took a picture of her wound but my mum told me not to post up as it is too ugly and some people find it a bit uncomfortable to look at it.


The left leg was bundled up by this amazing black brace which could be adjusted accordingly to 0 degree to other degree as advised by doctor. Now, the brace was set to 0 degree. (means the left leg cannot be bend at all)

Back at home ... leg all covered up with plastics and scotch tapes before taking shower !


Sigh ! Mum simply cannot sit still. She felt very handicapped and said she's very bored. She insisted to just sweep the floor ! Ok, at least she got to walk a bit. I cooked all meals for her.


A thoughtful hubby bought these plastic non-slippery squares to lay in the bathroom.

D90 & "A bowl of rice"

I love my D90 !
We went to MS Colour in Ang Mo Kio hoping to get one. Unfortunately, all D90 cameras were sold out. I reluctantly asked to take a look at D5000. Somehow, D5000 is not as appealing. I don't even like handling the camera. Before leaving AMK, I bought the charger and Peneloop batteries. They cost me $52.00, but if they are as good as they sounded, then it's worth it.

CK suggested that we go to Bukit Timah Courts to have a look. To my relief, they also have Nikon D90 offer. Besides giving the free camera bag, one 8gb card, one tripod, Courts also gave another additional 8gb card and a $90 Courts voucher.


Eneloop charger and batteries recommended by Dr New. Supposedly to be very long-lasting.


The free bag came as a surprise to me. This is one of the best camera bags I like. The bag is compact, leather is soft and the design is great !

Just when I was fooling around with my camera, Channel U happened to show a repeated programme called "城市城市生命线 " which featured CK's second brother and family in the show.

A new camera ?

My Nikon camera D70 was at least 5 to 6 years old and it is a second hand camera which I bought over from my cousin-in-law. Recently, it has been "behaving" rather weirdly.

Nikon is having a camera sales till this weekend. I have been wanting to get a new camera and this is a good chance. And best of all, CK said he will buy it for me .... hee hee hee

I am still indecisive which model to get. These models are phasing out soon to make way for new models but it doesn't really matter to me as long as they can deliver quality pictures.


Above beauty is D5000 with a vari-angle monitor with 19 pre-set scene modes. The monitor screen is slightly smaller than D90. Many would consider this camera an entry camera and a replacement of D60. Unfortunately, the Nikon sales package only consists of a camera lens with 18-55mm.


D90 is a higher-end camera and is about $450 more expensive than D5000. The package has the camera lens of 18-105mm which is more ideal for taking far objects.

Overall, I like both cameras. Both have it's pros and cons. Still got 2 more days to consider ...

Haji Lane, finally

Met up with Ruth this afternoon for a cup of coffee.
We went to Haji Lane to seek for white decorative cage. Unfortunately, it was sold out.
Anyhow, I was very happy to be there at this rather unique lane filled with a row of small shops selling more unusual stuff.

Weather was rather humid and Ruth was hiding in the shophouses' lane whenever she could to avoid Mr Sun. Met up with CK for dinner, the poor man was still doing testing for final launch tomorrow. He was not home yet ...

Grumpy old lady within ...

It has been a silent struggle within myself for the recent months. Sometimes, I wonder if I am encountering what they said "Mid-Life Crisis" ?

Yes, considering that the age of 37 matches the word "mid" and I am facing a struggle within myself. I couldn't bring myself to say that I am facing a Crisis at all. That would be so unfair since I still have a job to do, a house to stay in and family and friends around me. How bad could that have been ?

I did sit down alone to sort out my thoughts. Why am I behaving slightly eccentric nowsaday ? Slightly more impatient now, slightly more retarded now, easily irriated now, less compassionate now, more critical now .... it suddenly drawn to me that I have been too idle ... or no objectives in life. At times I felt that I am just wasting my life away. Are there something more meaningful that I should be doing instead of lamenting about life ?

I am truly inspired by Raymond and many other ardent volunteers of Noah Arks. Some of you might have known this non-profit welfare shelter for animals (not only dogs). They have shifted the whole operations in Singapore to JB after the lease has expired. Anyhow, I was happy that they have found a larger and cheaper land to house all the unfortunate animals. I was so touched by what he has done for the unwanted and abused animals that I have decided to make regular donations. Jan and myself have made food donations annually but I will follow her footsteps of donating on monthly basis. You can download the form from their website (http://www.noahsarkcares.com/)if you are keen. The form is called "Animal Sponsorship Form"and it was easy to fill up.

Noah Arks is not supported by any Government form and it is solely surviving on public's donations. I have also make a point to pull along CK and invite Jan one of these days to Noah Ark itself. (Jan has been there and she was very impressed by the new freedom that the animals have found there) If you are interested, give me a call and we can arrange to go there together. If I could not be a volunteer in this good cause, the least things I can do for these animals is just mere money.

Jojo Tan is indeed a very blessed and pampered doggie compared to the strays. Hee, you can imagine I have "told" Jojo what nice & responsible "parents" he has (sounded like "小孩不笨" ? Selina's tagline in the movie to her 2 kids) ... he just look at me longingly with his cute little face and tail (I think he thought I am trying to tell him treats are on the way).

Is it the image that I have "portrayed" unknowingly given people an idea that I have tons of good friends that all my time were taken up to date me out ?

NO ! Don't get the idea wrong.
I can feel pretty bored sometimes and wish that someone can date me out !

Decide to bog this as one friend thought I am super busy to ask me out ! Aiyo !

Of course, I also hope my good friends don't forget me when they are currently seeking their dreams or busy dating :)

A piece of cake

I placed 2 slices of cakes in the pantry fridge yesterday. Each cake was put inside a transparent container. These 2 cakes were a belated present for my colleague.

After I returned after banking in the charity proceeds at Blk 1, I decided to present the cakes to my colleague.

It was about 4pm when I went to the fridge to retrieve the 2 slices of cakes.

Guess what ? The plastic bag left only the cheesecake in the remaining container and the hazelnut cake was missing !
I could not have misplaced it. Both containers were put inside a pink coloured plastic bags and kinda tied up with a knot !

I went and asked my colleagues to help me to look for the cake. Indeed, the cake was no where to be found but the empty container was found in the bin !

We could not really believe that this has happened ! Then our D.Director told us that 2 weeks ago, her mango left in the fridge was also missing.

Even if the items in the fridge were not tagged, we should not just take and eat them. It's just not ethical to do that. My Director came to know about this and was quite worried about the safety of staff members' possessions in the office.

Hahaha, I wrote an email to everyone in the office about a story of a piece of cake and a mango. Hope the person who ate it got the hint.

ITE West for lunch and grocery shopping

ITE West (1 Chao Chu Kang)has finally open it's doors to the public !
This big campus is nestled near the HDB blocks which is quite near to our home.
School has not commenced yet but all the shops like Seven-Eleven, foodcourt and others have opened for business.

This wasn't what we expected of the bee hoon. It was pretty tasteless and we couldn't make out what sauce was used to cook with it. Luckily, the crab was fresh and sweet.


Peppered pork chop was average.


This claypot was nice with the thicken sauce and well-mixed of vegetables & beancurd.


Sweet potatoes leaves cooked with rather spicy and fragrant shrimps paste. One of our favourite dishes.

After our lunch, we went to "Shop & Save" for some grocery purchase. Wow, it is indeed convenient if you are working in this school. Nothing is lacking !

We are currently taking care of Pepper for 2 weeks. She is a very active dog and yes, she is still a puppy.

Could not resist taking photos of them. It was a challenge taking photos of Pepper as she is very active. But once she is placed on the black table, she is more manageable.



Both dogs were more "still" while standing on the table.
